Meet the Artist Behind the Brand
Meet the artist behind the brand
Delia graduated from the prestigious Royal College of Art in London with a Masters degree in Fashion design. In 1985 she was recruited from college to New York and began a 14 year career in the fashion industry. Shortly thereafter, living in LA, Delia was introduced to fashion collections that combined both woven’s and knitwear, spending time in Hong Kong to oversee production. Returning to NY she worked briefly for specialty designers, Carol Horne and Anne Pinkerton before finding her home with Babette & Partners from 1987-1996. During this period Delia became known for her colorful and artsy knitwear designs under her own label Delia McKain. These collections could be found in Nordstroms, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus catalog, private label including Costco, Tweeds Catalog, Newport News, Montgomery Ward, and other department and specialty stores.
From 1996 to 1998 she was the design director for Halston knitwear USA.
Growing up in the Highlands of Scotland was a grounding and highly creative experience. Learning to adapt to life with a sister who had an intellectual disability left an impactful impression on Delia’s journey. There are parallels between being a sister and now a mother navigating a world of ASD, anxiety and intellectual disability.
With a background in art and fashion, raising a daughter with an intellectual disability, Delia McKain OHare marries both worlds with her new line of products. IONA’S WORLD offers whimsical graphic images reinforced with positive affirmations.
Today Delia resides in Saint Augustine, Florida, where life moves at a slower pace. This affords her time to focus on her daughter Iona, her friends, and creating products that offer opportunities for self expression, empowerment and connection for all.
